Janelle Monae sings for freedom on her new single, Turntables

by

Atlantic RecordsJanelle Monae calls for justice on a new song, “Turntables,” from the forthcoming Amazon Studios documentary All In: The Fight for Democracy.

The powerful anthem marks the multi Grammy-nominated singer’s first music release since 2018’s Dirty Computer, which was nominated for Album of the Year.

All In: The Fight for Democracy explores the “often overlooked, yet insidious issue of voter suppression in the United States” ahead of the 2020 Presidential Election, according to a press release.

The Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés’ directed film “will offer an insider’s look into laws and barriers to voting that most people don’t even know is a threat to their basic rights as citizens of the United States.”

With perspective from Stacey Abrams, founder of voter suppression advocacy group Fair Fight Action, the film intends to expose long-held issues with voter suppression in the United States. Abrams previously lost in the fight for Georgia governor against now-elected Brian Kemp.

In addition, Amazon Studios and the filmmakers also launched #ALLINFORVOTING, a social impact campaign with nonprofits and grassroots organizations to release digital content to combat misinformation about the voting process, and launch targeted campaign programming to educate and register first-time voters.

Meanwhile, Monae also stars in the forthcoming new thriller, Antebellum, which will be available on-demand in homes everywhere, beginning Friday, September 18th.
