Janet Jackson Pays Tribute to Aaliyah on Anniversary of Her Death

It’s hard to believe it’s been 14 years since Aaliyah passed away on this date, August 25, in a 2001 plane crash. While many of her fans have taken to social media to honor the singer, Janet Jackson has posted an image of a handwritten note on Twitter.

“What I shared with you ever scared, everlasting and its pure and it will endure,” Janet wrote, “I love you Aaliyah #RIP.”

“I know u r there shining down on me,” Janet tweeted to the late singer, affectionately called Babygirl.

After filming the music video for her song “Rock the Boat,” Aaliyah and eight others were killed in a plane crash over the Bahamas.
