Jay Electronica’s new album may include a Jay-Z feature

Ilya S. Savenok/Getty ImagesJay Electronica is finally ready to drop his first new album after 13 years — with rap veteran JAY-Z in his corner.

Everything Is Love producer Young Guru shared an image of himself in the studio with the New Orleans rapper and Roc Nation A&R Lawrence “Law” Parker, as Jay-Z stood over him like a dedicated coach.  It’s not clear if Hova will also feature on Electronica’s album; we’ll just have to wait and see.

Fans have been awaiting a full-length project from Jay, assuming it would never see the light of day. But on February 7, he took to Twitter to announce his album A Written Testimony was complete and that he would release it in 40 days…which works out to March 18.

In fact, the album was recorded in 40 days and 40 nights — as an homage to the Biblical reference of Jesus’ time in the desert.

Fans are getting an opportunity to preview the album at three intimate listening sessions being held today in New York, Los Angeles and Jay’s hometown of New Orleans courtesy of Tidal.

Jay Electronica is notorious for going months, even years, without releasing a single or a project. He previously collaborated with Jay-Z on 2010’s “Shiny Suit Theory” and 2014’s monster “We Made It (Freestyle)“. He also collaborated with Nas on “Exhibit C.”

Electronica igned to Roc Nation in 2010, three years after releasing his debut album Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), featuring “Foreword” by Erykah Badu and Just Blaze. He was also featured on Rapsody‘s “Jedi Code” in 2013 and Chance the Rapper‘s “How Great” in 2016.
