We’ve seen Jennifer Hudson deliver stellar performances in movies like Dreamgirls and The Secret Life of Bees, but the Oscar-winning actress is set to star in what’s being described as her most challenging role to date in the upcoming film The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.
Hudson portrays “Gloria,” a drug-addicted single mother who sells her body as a means of survival. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hudson explains that she “loves a challenge” and portraying “Gloria was extremely challenging.”
“I was terrified down to the very first day we started filming,” Hudson says. “It’s definitely an important story and it’s something that’s very real. It was hard connecting to the character because it was so different from myself but at the same time that’s why I wanted to do it.”
“It’s a story about survival, I think the message is…everyone needs someone,” she says of the film. “No one can do it alone, it’s all about needing to make it through and that adds to the rawness of the whole project.”
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete also stars Jordin Sparks, with new music from the film’s co-producer Alicia Keys. The flick hits select theaters October 11.
