Jennifer Hudson Donates New School Supplies in Honor of Late Nephew

by

Anthony Mandler/ RCA RecordsJennifer Hudson has made thousands of Chicago students very happy to begin the new school year.

On Sunday, the Grammy award winner, along with her sister Julia, gave new school supplies to many children in need through their Julian D. King Gift Foundation‘s annual Hatch Day event.

The charity was created in honor of her late nephew, Julian D. King, who was the victim of a fatal shooting, along with Hudson’s mother and brother, in 2008 at the hands of Hudson’s estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour.

“Julian was a scholar of a child… as a student and he was a giver as well. So, Hatch Day represents everything about him,” said Hudson according to Entertainment Tonight.

Each child in attendance received a book bag and school supplies chosen for their grade level.
