We already know Jennifer Hudson has been tapped to show off her acting chops in the upcoming biopic Winnie Mandela, but she’s also proved her powerful vocal range for the film’s soundtrack.

The Oscar award-winning star can be heard on a new Diane Warren-penned song called “Bleed for Love,” which features South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir.

“‘Bleed for Love’ has such an incredible and meaningful message about the power of love and the extension of the human heart,” said Hudson in a press release. “Diane wrote a beautiful song and it was an honor to work with her and the rest of the team to create this powerful piece of music.”

“I remember the chills I had being in the room when [Jennifer] was hitting some of those notes,” Warren recalled. “She put her entire heart and soul into this performance. It is as if she is singing it not just as Jennifer Hudson but also as Winnie Mandela.”

The forthcoming film chronicles Winnie’s life from her childhood through her marriage and the incarceration of Nelson Mandela, as well as their divorce due to her own infidelity.

While the film is is scheduled to hit select theaters on September 6, the Winnie Mandela soundtrack is available for purchase now via Amazon.
