Jennifer Hudson is giving fans a quick glimpse into the recording process of her new single “Walk It Out,” lifted from her upcoming third album.  The singer revealed what it was like collaborating with Timbaland for the first time.

“I loved working with Timbaland,” she says in a behind-the-scenes clip posted to her YouTube page. “Working with Tim probably was the first time I ever spent all night in the studio. Now Tim, he just steps aside and said, ‘Do you.’ And he left me in the room and said, ‘Say what you want to say.'”

Jen says she reflected on growing up in her hometown of Chicago. “Walking up the street and somebody blow their horn from their car and says, ‘Hey shorty, let me holler at you!’ And you’re like, ‘Who is this?’ It’s like, ‘Hold on. If you want to talk to me, you’re going to have to approach me differently.’ And in this song I get to have a voice.”

She adds, “I feel like [Timbaland] opened it up for me to really be an artist and that’s when I realized that the studio is fun. Timbaland gave me that, so I tip my hat off to the man.”

Fans can expect J-Hud to release the song’s accompanying video in coming weeks. The clip was filmed in Chicago’s Wicker Park.

The singer’s upcoming disc, which boasts contributions from Pharrell Williams, Babyface and R. Kelly, is expected to arrive later this year.
