Business WireWhat so proudly we don’t hail? John Legend reportedly isn’t in favor of America’s national anthem, calling it “weak“on his Twitter account and nominating “America the Beautiful” as the country’s national anthem instead.
“My vote is for America the Beautiful. Star spangled banner is a weak song anyway,” John wrote.
Legend continued to tweet strong opinions on race and politics, particularly in regards to Donald Trump‘s visit to Mexico Wednesday. “Like, what period in Mexico’s history has Trump identified as the great period they should try to recapture? Hint: he has no f****** idea,” Legend said.
Legend added, “Some people talk to Americans of color like they own the place and WE should be grateful guests. We own the place together, buddy. Sorry.”
The singer-songwriter’s recent comments arrive on the heels of San Francisco 49ers quarterbackColin Kaepernick‘s decision to protest the national anthem during a preseason game last week.
Legend is the founder of a campaign titled “Free America,” which was developed by the entertainer to encourage discussion about the U.S. criminal justice system.
