John Legend Practicing “a Lot More” for Super Bowl Performance

by

ABC/Randy HolmesJohn Legend has had an extremely busy 2015 so far, winning a Golden Globe, being nominated for an Oscar, and now he’s preparing for Sunday’s Super Bowl.

He’ll sing “America the Beautiful” in a ceremony at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona before the game between the defending champion Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

“I’ve never performed that song live,” he tells Mashable.com. ”I’ve done the national anthem a lot. ‘America the Beautiful” is a much easier song,” he continues. “The national anthem has a wider range and it’s more complex for a singer. But “America the Beautiful” is such a lovely hymn, and I’m excited to perform it, especially for such a huge audience.”

This will be Legend’s first Super Bowl performance, and he’s making sure he finds time in his busy schedule to be prepared. “It’s such an honor for me,” he says. “I’ve played it a couple times to practice. I’ll practice a lot more as we get closer to the day.”
