John Legend and Robin Thicke are among the newly announced nominees for the 45th NAACP Image Awards, which recognize the accomplishments of people of color in television, music, literature and film.
Legend will compete against Thicke in the Outstanding Male Artist category as well as in the category of Outstanding Song for their respective hits “All Of Me” and “Blurred Lines.” John’s Love in the Future and Robin’s Blurred Lines albums will also go head to head in the Outstanding Album category.
Janelle Monae also received multiple nominations, including Outstanding Female Artist where she is up against Beyonce, Mary J Blige, India.Arie and Ledisi. In addition, Monae’s video for “Q.U.E.E.N.” featuring Erykah Badu was recognized in the Outstanding Music Video category, which also includes Alicia Keys and Maxwell‘s steamy “Fire We Make” clip as well as Bruno Mars‘ “Treasure.”
Other nominees include Charlie Wilson, Justin Timberlake, K. Michelle, Mariah Carey, Miguel and Candice Glover, among others.
Winners of the NAACP Image Awards will be announced during a two-hour star-studded TV One telecast on Saturday, February 22 at 9 p.m ET.
“This has been an incredible year from the artistic community, with phenomenal contributions across the board from the music, television, motion picture, and literature genres that have the power and impact to drive social change,” said Roslyn M. Brock, chairman of the NAACP in a statement. “The NAACP Image Awards provides an excellent venue to recognize those who make a difference through art and activism, and we are excited to honor and celebrate this caliber of talent.”
