John Legend enjoyed an incredible 2015, complete with Oscar-winning moments for the Selma soundtrack, and personal milestones. The singer tells ABC Radio why this year is one for the books — and why next yer will be just as good.
“It’s been incredible, I can’t imagine it being much better, but we’re having a baby next year so that’s pretty cool,” Legend says of his first child with wife, Chrissy Teigen.
Legend says he’s anxiously waiting to meet his daughter. “They always say you’ll never know exactly how you’re going to feel until you actually see the baby come out and get to hold it, so I’m looking forward to that,” Legend says.
The singer adds that he hasn’t made a New Year’s resolutions and doesn’t really plan to either. “I don’t do New Year’s resolutions I really think about my resolutions as far as new albums resolutions, so I’m like focused on what I want this next album to be,” he explains. “How much I want to challenge myself, and make the best songs of my career, make the the best record of my career so I focus more on that and then of course, I want to be a good dad, as soon as our little one comes.”
So what can fans expect from Legend in 2016? “They’re going to get a new album, a baby, it’s going to be a good year,” he says. As for music plans, John adds, “We’ll start touring probably toward the end of the year after I get a few months home with the baby.”
John is currently working on the follow-up to 2013’s Love in the Future.
