Business WireJohn Legend will perform at the high school he once attended, at a theater that now bears his name.
The Grammy award-winning artist is set to head back to his alma mater, Springfield North High School in Springfield, Illinois, on October 9 for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the school’s new John Legend Theater, reports the Springfield News-Sun.
Legend raised $500,000 for the renovated, $2.5-million theater.
Communications and Special Projects Consultant Kim Fish said that the musician’s donation helped speed development of the project.
“John was really a catalyst to get something that we all wanted to do finally done,” she said. “It’s been 10 years in the making.”
Two-hundred wristbands for entry to the celebratory concert will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to the public.
