John Legend Uses Star Sounds in New Holiday Tune, “Under the Stars”

by

ABC/Randy HolmesThe stars aligned for this new John Legend holiday tune. The singer wrote the song, called “Under the Stars,” using actual recordings of star vibrations.

“I didn’t really realize we could do this, but scientists have been recording the vibrations of stars,” John tells People. “We were able to incorporate the recordings into the song.”

He says the process wasn’t much different from using regular instruments. “I’m in the business of trying to find things that are great sonically, anyway,” he says. “So it wasn’t that difficult to translate that into listening to star sounds.”

The tune, written exclusively for the Stella Artois Give Beautifully holiday campaign, debuted Monday. “Stella” means “star” in Latin.

“I wanted to write a song that was all about uniting people all around the world together under the stars,” he says. “The whole idea, of course, is to ‘give beautifully’ and this was our gift to America.”

John will perform the song at the opening of “Stars” by Stella Artois, an interactive light installation in New York City, on December 9.
