Star singer John Legend has stepped up for people with criminal backgrounds to make sure that get more job opportunities.
FORBES reports that Legend’s initiative FreeAmerica, which targets criminal justice reform has been working in conjunction with Unlocked Futures and New Profit for the past two years, making entrepreneurs who have first hand knowledge of the impacts of the criminal justice system, to help educate others.

According the website, FreeAmerica, “founded by John Legend in 2014, is a campaign to transform America’s criminal justice system. When 70 million individuals across the country have a criminal record, mass incarceration can only be categorized as an epidemic due to decades of misguided policies and practices.”
In 2015, Legend used and Common for used their #Oscar acceptance speech for ‘best music’ for “#Glory,” to highlight the ongoing crisis of criminalization and mass incarceration of black folks.
