Sing It On, the musical competition series executive-produced by John Legend‘s production company, has been picked up a second season.
According to Variety, the show, which is inspired by the film Pitch Perfect, has an eight-episode order that will air on the new CBS/Lionsgate cable venture, Pop.
Next season will feature five new university a cappella groups competing for a spot at the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella finals at Carnegie Hall. Production is scheduled to begin this month, with the new season slated to debut later this year.
“I had so much fun singing a cappella in college,” Legend previously said in a statement. “The music, the friendships, the competitions were all a huge part of my college experience. We’re excited to be a part of a show that documents the real ups and downs of this interesting world that many know nothing about. It’s going to be an interesting journey, and I look forward to being a part of it.”
