Johnny Gill Says New Edition Is Hitting the Studio

ABC/Kelsey McNealBET’s three-part miniseries, The New Edition Story, aired this week and was such a hit that the iconic R&B group is getting back in the studio to work on some new music.

Group member Johnny Gill explained more of the surprising news to TMZ on Friday, saying that after a phone call with Michael Bivins, he and New Edition decided to get to work on a new album and get it ready “ASAP,” with tour dates coming “very, very shortly.”  

“We’re ready to move forward. We know that the fans have spoken and we have to listen,” he added. 

BET hit a ratings high Tuesday night with the premiere of the show, which, as previously reported, brought in 4.4 million viewers, making it the network’s highest-rated premiere in five years.

The miniseries, which follows the R&B group from their humble beginnings in Boston to superstardom, details the fights, break-ups and group drama they experienced along the way.
