Getty Images for MTVKarrueche Tran did not mean to offend Beyoncé and Jay Z’s daughter while co-hosting BET’s countdown show 106 & Park. During the show’s segment, “Top Six Things Blue Ivy Thought at the VMAs,” Tran unintentionally dissed the toddler’s hair.

“I really did wake up like this, because my parents never comb my hair,” Tran said during the broadcast. She then publicly apologized on air immediately after: “Sorry Blue! I love you.”

After angering Beyonce’s fans, Chris Brown‘s girlfriend declared via Twitter that the blame should be put on the producers.

“Now y’all know I LOVE me some Beyoncé and Blue Ivy! I didn’t write this script y’all lol,” she tweeted. “I am definitely team .”

Sources tell TMZ that Tran was unaware of the joke in advance of the live broadcast, and that she and her manager felt was mean-spirited and tasteless.

Later on Tuesday, Stephen Hill, BET’s president of music programming, took to Twitter to apologize.  In a four-part series of tweets, Hill called the quip “a stupid, unthoughtful joke made about a young child.”  He said the network had apologized privately and was now apologizing publicly and that “punitive actions” had been taken against those responsible.  He also let Tran off the hook writing, “please don’t hate on Karrueche; it was NOT her fault. We also apologize to her for putting her in that position.”
