Kehlani describes Toxic relationships in new single

by

Arturo-TorresR&B singer Kehlani is back with another breakup song, “Toxic,” following last month’s “Valentine’s Day (Shameful).” The track details the toxic elements of a relationship, while giving a little background on her relationship with rapper YG.

The couple broke up last month just days after YG surprised her with dozens of red roses, teddy bears and shoeboxes galore on Valentine’s Day. Kehlani shared the romantic gesture in a now-deleted IG post, according to Hot New Hip Hop.

Throughout the song, she shares how she kept coming back for more even though she knew things were “Toxic,” blaming her clouded judgment on alcohol. “Don Julio made me a fool for you/And now I might hit your phone up,” she sings on the pre-chorus.

Though not listed, Ty Dolla $ign lends background vocals on the song. She freestyled most of the self-penned track which was produced by hitmakers G.Ry, who has worked with DrakeSummer Walker, Party Next Door and Nipsey Hussle, and KBeaZy, who has worked with Roddy Ricch and Juice World.

The singer revealed on Twitter she finished recording her album last month, which follows her 2017 debut SweetSexySavage.  A fan commented, “Kehlani is about to drop the best project of her career,” to which she responded, “never lied.”

Kehlani is expected to tour with Justin Bieber this May.
