R. Kelly‘s past as an alleged sexual predator has resulted in him being pulled from the inaugural Fashion Meets Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio, according to USA Today.

After locals expressed their disappointment via Twitter and Facebook, event organizers announced that they’ve “have decided to part ways” with the singer, who was indicted in 2002 on charges of making child pornography and then acquitted in 2008.

Fans seem to have mixed reactions to the news. One commented, “You guys were wrong in dropping R.Kelly out of the festival. Those allegations happened a decade ago.” Another added, “SO HAPPY TO HEAR THIS. I feel 100% about attending FMMF now!”

Meanwhile, Kelly’s publicist released the following statement to USA Today: “R. Kelly is sorry to disappoint his fans but looks forward to seeing them in the near future during one of his upcoming tours.”

Although his replacement has yet to be revealed, the event will include a headlining performance from Michelle Williams over the Labor Day weekend, August 29-31.
