Kelly Rowland Will Offer Wisdom to Aspiring Singers in BET’s Chasing Destiny

MARTIN BUREAU/AFP/Getty ImagesKelly Rowland plans to pass down some nuggets of wisdom on her BET reality show, Chasing Destiny. The singer tells ABC Radio what she intends to impart to the aspiring singing group that she will put together in her upcoming series.

“I think it’s a lot of things, and it’s not just myself that wants to actually teach them. When I’ve spoke to other friends and peers of mine in the music industry and I’ve told them about the project and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, sign me on. I gotta tell them about, you know, this, I gotta tell them about the money, how to get the money, how to keep the money,” says the former Destiny’s Child member.

“It’s people who actually want to impart wisdom on them and I think that’s what I want to do in my walk and my journey ’cause that’s important, that’s necessary,” she says, “and I think that that’s a part of me even being the godmother as such and bringing that to them.”

There seems to be a time when an artists transitions from being in front of the mic to behind the scenes. So is Kelly moving on to her mogul phase?  “This is the start of it,” she says.

“There’s other things that I still want to do in the forefront, don’t get it twisted,” she adds, “But I still feel the need to perform, I still feel the need to record and create music, but I also feel like it’s time for this as well.”

Chasing Destiny premieres April 5 at 10 p.m. ET on BET. Frank Gatson, who has a long association with Rowland, Beyonce and other female music stars, will serve as the new series’ creative director/choreographer.
