R. Kelly Sits Down with Elliott Wilson for CRWN Interview

by

RCA RecordsR. Kelly discussed everything from working with Lady Gaga to writing hits in a McDonald’s parking lots during his sit-down with Elliott Wilson  for the new installment of Myspace’s CRWN series, which was filmed at The Cutting Room in New York City last week.

The crooner also discussed recording over 300 songs for his latest album, Black Panties.  “I did 362 songs for the Black Panties album,” said Kelly. “And it took me a long, long time. It took me about a month…that was the hardest task of the whole project is breaking down what songs we were gonna do.”

Kels explained why he returned to recording sensual songs on the project. “It was time to pretty much get back to the sexual R. Kelly… get my ass back in the studio and do a baby-making album,” he said. “Long as I keep it real and give the ladies what they thinking.”

Kelly also described his songwriting process. “I love metaphors and subliminal messages in songs, mixed with comedy and great melody and music,” Kelly explained. “I believe that that’s what made me who I am and that’s what’s keeping me who I am.”

The self-proclaimed King of R&B also discussed his throat surgery, reconciling with Jay Z, playing against Michael Jordan on the court, meeting Tupac, his popular “Trapped In The Closet” series, and his favorites from R&B’s next generation.  Head over to Myspace for the full interview.
