Cliff Lipson/CBSKendrick Lamar enjoyed a very good night at the 58th annual Grammy Awards Monday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The rapper’s To Pimp a Butterfly album swept the Rap categories, taking took home five trophies, including Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, for “Alright.”
In the R&B and Urban categories, it was a split field. D’Angelo and The Vanguard won Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song for Black Messiah and “Really Love,” respectively, while The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness took the award for Best Urban Contemporary Album, and Best R&B Performance for “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey).”
There was also a shared songwriting win for Common and John Legend: Best Song Written for Visual Media, for “Glory.”
