Kerry Washington, Janelle Monáe to be honored at this year’s American Black Film Festival Honors

The American Black Film Festival Honors will return for its fifth year next month, and among this year’s honorees are Kerry Washington and Janelle Monáe.

Announced Monday, Kerry will be honored with the Excellence in the Arts Award (Female), while Monáe will receive the Renaissance Award. Other honorees include Courtney B. Vance, who will get the Excellence in the Arts Award (Male); MACRO founder and CEO Charles D. King, the future recipient of the Industry Leadership Award; and Eve’s Bayou, which will be honored with the ABFF Honors 2023 Classic Cinema Award.

“This year’s ABFF Honorees, Courtney, Kerry, Janelle and Charles are unquestionably amongst the best in our industry and it brings us a great deal of pleasure to illuminate their stellar careers,” ABFF Ventures founder and CEO Jeff Friday said in a statement. “Kasi Lemmon’s Eve’s Bayou is a cinematic gem that deserves this recognition in its 25th anniversary year.”

The 2023 ABFF Honors will take place Sunday, March 5. Deon Cole will serve as the night’s host.
