Larenz Tate gives advice to Trey Songz following ‘Power’ theme controversy: Drop a new song

by

STARZAs the Internet continues to buzz about the Trey Songz Power theme song controversy, one of the stars of the series is weighing in.

After Songz’s remix of the theme song was blasted on social media, Power executive producer 50 Centresponded by replacing the singer’s version with the show’s original theme, which featured vocals by Joe.

But now, Larenz Tate, who portrays a councilman on the show, has advised Songz to turn a negative into a positive and release new music.

“Right now I would say, ‘Yo Trey, take the opportunity while you got a lot of this Internet going crazy, drop a new song,'” he tells TMZ. “Take advantage of it. Turn lemons into lemonade.”

Tate also said he wasn’t surprised that fans objected to Trey’s remix, because people were so accustomed to the version featuring Joe.

“When I first listened to it, I thought it would take people a minute to get used to it,” Tate says. “We all love Trey Songz. I just feel like the audience…their ears is just used to the original theme song,”

“I feel like perhaps if it was a remix that was put on the radio, people could probably could deal with it a little bit more than when you first hear the new version of the theme song after listening to it for five years,” he continues.

As previously reported Friday, Trey took to Instagram Friday to share that he was fed up with the criticism of the altered version of “Big Rich Town.”

“Ima slap the s*** outta one of you n***** bout this Power s***,” Songz captioned a photo of himself smoking a cigar.
