Lauryn Hill, Usher, Mary J. Blige Featured on Nina Simone Tribute Album Released Friday

The 16-track CD of covers of Simone’s most popular songs follows the Netflix documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone? which debuted June 26. Hill contributed five songs, including “Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair,” which Simone released in 1959. The album’s final cut is Simone’s recording of “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free.”

NINA SIMONE REVISITED: A Tribute to Nina Simone also includes contributions from Jazmine Sullivan and Lalah Hathaway, as well as two songs from Simone’s daughter, Lisa Simone. Civil rights activist Angela Davis wrote the liner notes.
