Ledisi promises to do “Anything for You” with her new single from her forthcoming album.
The multi-Grammy nominated singer revealed the song’s inspiration came from a family conversation with her long-time producer Rex Rideout about his father.
“We were talking about this one powerful love that extended through all of these people,” she told Essence.
“Then I started to think about my mom, dad, and husband and all that love. And how love transcends physical space. It never ends, it goes on and on.”
Ledisi promises her new album will be “raw” and “organic,” but will still feature her unique blend of traditional jazz and contemporary R&B. She’s a big advocate for good songs and “storytelling—like how the great Bill Withers did it. Just sing a song and tell the story,” she says.
In other storytelling matters, the “Alright” singer chats with Stephanie Mills, as well as other creatives, about their life stories on her podcast Listen Black: Creatives Conversations with Ledisi.
