Moses Robinson/Getty Images for BETLegendary rap duo Mobb Deep tapped Lil’ Kim for the 1998 remix of their classic, “Quiet Storm.” Kim’s dance in the video has since become a viral trend on all social platforms, heightened by her 2019 performance at the BET Hip Hop Awards.
During a recent interview with Sway Calloway, the the hip-hop icon “exclusively” revealed the dance was inspired by another legendary rapper.
“I was a huge Method Man fan and one thing that I always used to say was he had the illest bounce in the game. It was something that Method Man used to always do and I loved that dance,” said Kim. “I did that in honor of him.”
According to Kim, Meth’s 6’3 frame made him look shorter when doing the dance, which makes him go bounce low. But her 4’11 self had to switch it up.
“I had to kinda make it my own,” she joked. “Because I’m just the opposite. He’s so tall and I’m so petite and tiny so I had to come up. But til’ this day, it’s like a new [experience] every time I perform it.”
Later, Kim discussed narrating season two of American Gangster: Trap Queens, which chronicles the lives of notorious female criminals.
The Notorious K.I.M., who previously served 10 months in federal prison between 2005-2006 for perjury, hinted at “building a center” to support other women getting “back on their feet after prison.”
“Because a lot of people don’t know how hard it is for these woman, especially ones that have children,” the rapper said. “It’s a hard thing for women to just get back into it, even me…this big superstar celebrity.”
