ABC/Randy HolmesMariah Carey has big news — and an even bigger piece of new bling. Vogue.com has confirmed that the singer is engaged to her billionaire beau James Packer. The site also has an exclusive look at her whopping 35-carat engagement ring.
To put the size of her ring in perspective, it’s the about the size of Kim Kardashian and Beyonce’s engagement sparklers combined. It also trumps actress Elizabeth Taylor’s famously enormous 33-carat ring given to her by Richard Burton.
According to Vogue.com, James collaborated with Mariah’s jewelry designer friend Wilfredo Rosado to create the epic ring. It took two weeks to make. Though the stone is huge, the overall design was kept simple. The diamond is set on a platinum band with two smaller diamonds on either side. There’s also an empty space on the back of the band, which James said he eventually wants to engrave with a special message for Mariah.
Mariah met James, an Australian businessman, at a movie premiere in Aspen and they began dating last summer. He reportedly popped the question Thursday night. This will be the third marriage for each of them.
