Mariah Carey (of Course) Tops Billboard Holiday 100 Chart

by

XPX/Star Max/GC Images’Tis the season for wall-to-wall Christmas music on the radio, so Billboard has launched its annual Holiday 100 chart, tracking the most popular holiday tunes in the land.  It’s no surprise that Mariah Carey‘s classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” tops that particular chart.

The chart, which launched in 2011, has existed for a total of 21 weeks, and Mariah’s song has been #1 for 16 of them.  It’s also #1 on the Holiday Digital Songs Chart and the Holiday Streaming Chart.  “All I Want for Christmas” is also the only relatively modern song in the chart’s top 10, which is mostly comprised of classics like “The Christmas Song,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “A Holly Jolly Christmas.”   The only other song in the top 10 that’s from the past 25 years is “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

On the Holiday Albums Chart, Mariah’s first holiday album, 1994’s Merry Christmas, which includes “All I Want for Christmas,” is in the top 10 for the first time in 17 years: it’s currently number six.  The number one album on the chart is That’s Christmas to Me by Pentatonix, which first came out last year.

A picture book based on “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is currently in stores, and her Hallmark Christmas movie A Christmas Melody, which she directs and stars in debuts on the Hallmark Channel December 19 at 8 p.m. ET.  Mariah also will play a string of Christmas concerts at New York’s Beacon Theatre on December 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17 and 18.
