The young star, who recently made history by becoming the youngest executive producer in Hollywood with her film Little and the youngest — in recent history — to sign a first-look deal with Universal Studios, took to Instagram to thank God for her “roller coaster” of a year that was filled with “crazy emotions.”

“Moments from this year, I was in a dark place,” Martin reveals. “A place that I didn’t think I was going to get out of. I thought I wasn’t good enough and I thought I needed to present myself in a way that was ‘perfect’ when I didn’t need to. Putting so much pressure on myself. Fighting with myself.”

According to Martin, the feeling she had “nothing to do with how child actors think,” but were from her “own personal thoughts.”

“The more I kept how I was feeling hidden, the more this dark emotion got bigger,” she explains.

Thankfully, Martin says she spoke to her parents who “knew” how she was feeling and made her feel better about herself.

“I started praying more, talking more, and spending more time with the people I love,” she writes. “Now I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt in a long time.”

After thanking God for helping her through that tough period, Martin offered some important advice to others who are also struggling with dark feelings and emotions.

“I encourage everyone to speak their mind to anyone u trust,” she writes. “Even asking a random person ‘how are you?’ can mean something. Also, be yourself because no one can be like you, other than YOU.”
