Mary J. Blige Reveals Broadway Aspirations to Share Her Life Story

Image Courtesy Peter Kramer/NBCMary J. Blige has always been candid in her music about her ups and downs, and now the singer is ready to bring her story to life on a Broadway stage.

“I definitely want to see the Mary J. Blige story — or just one of the album cycles — on Broadway,” Blige tells Playbill.

Mary would have plenty of material to pick from if her show comes to fruition — she’s battled drug and alcohol addictions, escaped abusive relationships and even dropped out of high school at 17 years old. “To just have one of those albums, turns or times on Broadway would be crazy,” she adds.

Blige believes she has an inspiring story to tell.  “My life is an inspiration because from one day to the next, you don’t know what’s going to happen, so I’m just happy that I’m here right now!” she shares. “I’m telling the story, and I’m living my life, and I’m excited when I wake up in the morning to see what’s going to happen today. And, I look forward to something great happening.”

In the meantime, we will soon see Mary starring as as Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West, in NBC’s The Wiz! Live, airing Thursday, December 3.
