by

ABC/Rick RowellThe first expansion of the Power universe is underway.

Friday at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Power executive producers 50 Cent and Courtney A. Kemp announced Power Book II: Ghost, the first sequel to the soon-to-be-concluded Starz drama.

Mary J. Blige is set to star in the new show, which Kemp and 50 said is the first of what will be “a collection of series inspired by the dynamic world of Power.”

Power Book II: Ghost will “continue the journey” of some of Power‘s “most controversial characters,” according to Kemp and 50.  It’s not clear what MJB’s role will be. The Oscar-nominated actress and singer was most recently seen earlier this year in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, playing a time-traveling assassin called Cha-Cha.

In addition, it was announced that Power season six will air in two parts. Part I, consisting of 10 episodes, will debut August 25, as previously announced  Part II, the show’s final five episodes, will premiere in January.

An after-show called Power Confidential will air following the premiere of each new episode, featuring the cast and creators of the show, as well as celebrity fans and surprise guests.
