Mobb Deep celebrates the 25th anniversary of ‘The Infamous’ with an expanded version

by

Sony MusicNew York’s Mobb Deep will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking East Coast rap masterpiece The Infamous by releasing an expanded edition this Friday, April 24th.

Hardcore rappers Havoc and Prodigy started out in 1991, but it was their 1995 second album that marked the rappers’ evolution from Queens underground phenomenon to one of the most influential duos in hip-hop.

“I’m often asked out of the Mobb Deep albums I made, which one’s my favorite… and I tell them The Infamous every time,” Havoc said in a statement. “Without its existence, I probably wouldn’t even be giving you this quote!”

The album earned critical recognition for its direct narratives about inner-city crime, poverty, and street sophistication, paired with unforgettable melodies, a signature production style, and chilling beats.

The Infamous peaked at number-three on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and #15 on the Billboard 200. It generated the hit singles “Shook Ones Pt. II,” “Survival of the Fittest” and the gold-certified “Give Up the Goods (Just Step).”

Sadly, Prodigy died on June 20, 2017, after a lifelong battle with sickle-cell anemia.

Later this year, a deluxe 12″ vinyl version of The Infamous will be available, featuring the original album and a variety of rare mixes, alternate takes and unreleased tracks recorded during the making of The Infamous.
