Mulatto gives back to Atlanta community in new video for Spend It

by

ABDMAtlanta rapper Mulatto is supporting her hometown in new video for “Spend It.”

The video opens with Mulatto explaining that she initially wanted the video to be just as “flexed up” as her other visuals. But in light of the Christmas spirit, she changed her mind.

“[I wanted to] pull out them racks, pull out them foreign [cars] and just talk about how I’m the “Youngest N Richest,” said Mulatto, referencing the first track on her album, Queen of the Souf.

“But it’s Christmas time, it’s holiday time and I feel like a better way to spend it would be giving back to the community [to support] people who are less fortunate than I am,” she added. “I can spend [it] on me all day but today we got spend [it] on people who need it. It’s the season of giving.”

The video finds a camera crew following Mulatto and her team around Walmart, filling up shopping carts with clothes, toys, food, iPads, laptops, AirPods, bikes and more to hand out to residents at a housing project in Atlanta. The team also purchased and hand-delivered coats and pizzas to a group of homeless people near the city’s Pine Street.

In the midst of a pandemic year, Mulatto still managed to come out on top: She scored her first BillboardHot 100 hit, released collaborations with some of Atlanta’s hottest rappers, such as Gucci ManeYFN Lucci, 2 Chainz, and of course, released her debut album Queen of the Souf in September.

“Spend It” is featured on the album’s deluxe version, which was released earlier this month.
