Motown Records/Compound EntertainmentNe-Yo admits he was “worried” about how his fans would receive his Good Man album, out today, but he’s “happy” that so far, the response has been positive.
The three-time Grammy Award-winner performed Friday in New York City’s Central Park for ABC’s Good Morning America Summer Concert Series, and he told ABC Radio he’s enjoying the social media comments about his new music.
“I’m looking on my Twitter feed, looking on my Instagram,” he says, “and the fans are appreciating it. It’s getting good reviews so far.”
Ne-Yo adds he was concerned because he’d taken a bit of a hiatus, but now he can relax a bit.
“It feels good,” he says. “I was a little worried, to be honest, just because of the fact that I’ve been gone for roughly three years and in the music industry, three years is like 10 years.”
The title track of the album recently hit number one on the Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs chart, and the video had its broadcast premiere today on Good Morning America.
Ne-Yo will also perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on June 20, and he’s continuing in his role as a judge on the World of Dance TV series.
The 20-track Good Man album, Ne-Yo’s first since 2015’s Non-Fiction,features PARTYNEXTDOOR, Bebe Rexha, Stefflon Don, Romeo Santos, Eric Bellinger, Candice Boyd and Sam Hook. The 35-year old singer says he’s made alterations in his music and his image, and he’s happy to know fans are embracing his new style.
“The sound has changed, the look has changed, everything’s different from when I was last out,” he says. “I was a little concerned about how it would be received but so far so good, so I’m happy.”
