Ne-Yo is reviving the vibrant sounds of new jack swing with his latest single, “Genesis.”
The new tune is set to be featured on the soundtrack for the original YouTube series, Step Up: High Water, which the R&B crooner has also been tapped to star in. The high-energy track finds Ne-Yo singing in character as Sage Odom, the director of High Water Performing Arts School and a former pop star attempting to make a comeback.
Poised as the series’ antagonist, “Genesis” provides insight into Sage’s perspective. “They don’t know about my life/They don’t know what I’ve been through,” Ne-Yo sings.
In addition to the Grammy-winning songwriter, Step Up: High Water will also feature a guest appearance from Rick Ross, as well as musical direction from Timbaland.
Season two of Step Up: High Water series is slated to arrive March 20 on YouTube.
