ABC/ Ida Mae AstuteNe-Yo may be a celebrity admired by fans all over the world, but the World of Dance star and singer tells In Touch Weekly that the only “places in the world” where he can “100 percent be myself and not worry about judgement” are solely with his wife, model Crystal Renay, and three kids Shaffer Chimere Smith Jr., Madilyn, and Mason.
The entertainer also says his family, particularly his children, has affected his music in a big way.
“It’s made me more cautious about the words I use in my music,” he explains.
“Children turn into little tape recorders, and even though things sound cuter coming from them, you don’t want your four-year-old running around shouting [bad] words.
“It’s up to parents to make sure their child isn’t a terror,” Ne-Yo adds.
With his hot music career, judging duties on World of Dance and job as a father, the “Another Love Song” artist certainly has a lot on his plate, but tells In Touch Weekly that he and his wife both enjoy it all in equal measure.
He says, “She doesn’t complain too much, so I think I’m doing something right!”
