Nelly to play Chuck Berry in upcoming Buddy Holly biopic

ABC/Frank OckenfelsNelly is making the jump from hip-hop to rock and roll with his latest endeavor. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Hot In Here” rapper has been tapped to join the cast of Clear Lake, a biopic inspired by the late Buddy Holly. In the film, he will portray singer, songwriter, and guitarist Chuck Berry, who was known as one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. 

Also signing on alongside Nelly are Colin Hanks, who will portray Holly’s producer and manager, and Diane Guerrero, as Holly’s wife.

As described by the outlet, Clear Lake, which is being directed by Bruce Beresford, “will open with Holly’s teen years, then portray his 1958 Biggest Show of Stars tour with Clarence Collins, founder ofLittle Anthony & the Imperials, as they broke racial barriers by performing together across the U.S. in 1958.”
