Photo Credit: Jimmy FontaineAward-winning director/producer Ava Duvernay is set to co-produce a documentary about the life and legacy of Nipsey Hussle, executive-produced by RocNation.

Nipsey’s team confirmed on Instagram that the documentary is still “in the negotiations phase,” but if Duvernay’s company ARRAY comes on board, the film will stream on Netflix.

The team warned, “No final deal has been inked,” adding, “…this documentary is very important to the family and will not be fast tracked by monetary gain and/or commercial interests.”

Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was shot and killed March, 31, 2019 in Los Angeles, outside his Marathon Clothing store. Aside from his thought-provoking, insightful music, Hussle was an entrepreneur and community activist who sought to empower black communities all over the world through entrepreneurship, starting with his hometown South Los Angeles.

Nipsey was honored at the Grammy Awards last month with a tribute performance by his friends Meek Mill, Dj Khaled, YG, and Roddy Rich, who was featured on Hussle’s Grammy Award winning single, “Racks in the Middle.”

He leaves behind his 11 year old daughter Emani, and his longtime love Lauren London, who continues to honor his legacy with her recent Puma X The Marathon Clothing “Hussle & Motivate” clothing collection. The couple was together for six years and have a three-year-old son named Kross.
