Paula Patton Says Splitting from Robin Thicke Was Challenging

by

Interscope RecordsPaula Patton‘s rocky marriage to Robin Thicke, and their ultimate estrangement, has been news for some time, but Patton has stayed mostly silent about it.  Now she’s finally talking about it publicly, saying she’s trying to look on the bright side of things.

“I mean, it’s so easy for all of us to focus on the negative things. But usually the positive in your life outweighs that,” she said on Friday’s Good Morning America. “And you have to just be thankful for what you have right now.”

Amid rumors of his infidelity, Patton separated from Thicke last year and filed for divorce months later. The two, who wed in 2005, have a 4-year-old son together.

Patton said she’s stronger as a result of what has happened: “I’m doing really well. I mean, the honest truth is it has been challenging, but it’s been a year of growth, lots of healing, learning about all new things. But I’ve come out of it stronger.”

She added, “My son’s happy and I’m very — you know, I feel like everything happens for a reason. And then you have to move on and grow from there.”

Regardless of her personal drama, Patton is busy with new projects, including a clothing line in collaboration with designer Ellen Tracy.

“It was kind of an amazing blessing,” Patton said. “Ellen Tracy came to me and said, ‘Would you like to be our brand ambassador?’ And I looked at the clothing and — amazing. It’s really well-made, classic clothing that’s affordable. But what I liked about it was that you could, like, add your own twist to it…you can make it as edgy or quirky as you want and add your personality to it.”
