Pharrell Williams to Receive Variety Creative Impact Award

Noam Galai/WireImagePharrell Williams is set to receive a prestigious honor during next year’s Palm Springs Film Festival. 

The award-winning artist will be the first recipient of the Variety Creative Impact Award in Producing for his work on the forthcoming film Hidden Figures.

Variety Vice President and Executive Editor Steven Gaydos stated, “We reward [Williams] for championing a film that showcases the incredible true story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson — three African-American mathematicians working at NASA who helped win the space race in the 1960s.” 

Pharrell is co-producer of Hidden Figures and helmed the movie’s soundtrack. Two of the album’s songs, “I See a Victory” and “Runnin’,” are among a total of 91 tracks eligible to be nominated for Best Original Song at the 2017 Oscars.
