Pynk is the truth you can’t hide: Janelle Monae comes out as pansexual

by

Atlantic RecordsJanelle Monae‘s forthcoming album Dirty Computer isn’t the only thing that’s coming out.

The “Make Me Feel” singer tells Rolling Stone in a new interview that she’s pansexual, and is attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender identity.

“Being a queer black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women,” says Janelle.

“I consider myself to be a free-a** m**********r.”

Janelle goes on: “I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, there are things that I identify with too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am.”

Janelle, who’s been rumored to be Creed actress Tessa Thompson‘s girlfriend, adds that she’s always given clues about her sexuality in her music.

“If you listen to my albums, it’s there,” she says.

As for Dirty Computer, Janelle hopes it encourages fans to embrace their sexuality, just as she has.

“I want young girls, young boys, non-binary, gay, straight, queer people who are having a hard time dealing with their sexuality, dealing with feeling ostracized or bullied for being their unique selves, to know that I see you,” she declares.

“This album is for you. Be proud.”
