Randy Jackson reveals how he’s teasing Simon Cowell about his emergency spinal surgery

by

Paul Archuleta/FilmMagicAmerica’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell needed emergency spinal surgery over the summer after breaking his back in a freak electric scooter accident.  Randy Jackson revealed in a new interview the encouraging-but-teasing words he sent to his former American Idol co-star.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Jackson revealed he knew exactly what kind of pain Cowell was going through.

“I also had spine surgery a year and a half or so ago, so it’s funny both he and I are having all these back pains,” he revealed, adding that Cowell is “really doing great.”

Still, how Cowell managed to break his back has become somewhat of a joke between the two, with the Name That Tune host cracking, “I kid him… I say, ‘Look, we’re getting a little bit older, we’re 36 now, internally, but we ain’t 30 no more, dawg. We gotta like respect the body, yo!'”

As for how Jackson respects his body, he said he took a hard look at his weight and knew he needed to do something about it.

“I just went through a food divorce and I stopped emotional eating,” said Randy, revealing he shed 114 pounds since changing his diet. “I was just trying to get healthy because I developed Type 2 diabetes and I had to. So I’m happy that I did, and I’m happy that it inspires people.”

And, while he feels 36, internally, that doesn’t mean that he can continue dressing as he used to back in the day — especially now that he’s rejoined the acclaimed rock band Journey as their bassist.

“No more leather, no more pleather. No more with the whole hairdo,” Jackson promised of the upcoming tours once COVID-19 is no longer a threat. “I gotta change it up now.”
