R. Kelly reportedly could face jail time after allegedly falling behind on child support payments.
According to New York Post ‘s Page Six, the singer’s ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, filed court papers on Thursday accusing the hitmaker of failing to pay $20,833 a month in child support.
The paper reports that the singer previously fell more than $100,000 behind in payments last year, but managed to pay the debt off.
Meanwhile, according to the report, Kelly’s attorneys are concerned that the singer could face jail time if he misses a March 27 hearing in his child-custody battle in Chicago. If that happens, a judge could put Kelly behind bars for 30 days to six months since he failed to show up for a previous hearing in November.
“The judge was clear in November that he wasn’t happy R. Kelly didn’t show up,” said a source. “His lawyer is worried the judge could lock Kelly up if he doesn’t show this time, but he can’t reach his client.”
The Post cites sources as saying that Kelly is “in a bunker” and “unreachable,” despite his legal troubles.
