It was USPS workers who began sounding the alarm on the disturbing shenanigans at post offices around the country about 2 months ago — mail processing machines being disabled and padlocked, mail collection boxes being ripped from their bases. and removed, mail piling up in distribution centers that should have been delivered the day before.
The Los Angeles Times reports, that a huge package sorting facility had in South Los Angeles had fallen so far behind that “gnats and rodents were swarming around containers of rotted fruit and meat, and baby chicks were dead inside their boxes.”
The new post master general is to blame for the massive confusion and backlog of mail. Louis DeJoy, a millionaire, long time Republican donor and friend of Donald Trump is directing massive cuts to post office operations.
Critics say he’s doing so to disrupt the mail in advance of the November elections in which a massive number of mail-in ballots are expected to be cast.
This past Friday on DeJoy faced a grilling during a virtual congressional hearing in which he acknowledged the changes but refused to commit to reverse them. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi commented on the matter on MSNBC. DeJoy faces another hearing on Monday.
Postmaster General DeJoy’s announcement today only halts a limited number of his changes, does not reverse damage already done, and alone is not enough to ensure voters will not be disenfranchised by the President this fall. #DontMessWithUSPS #DeadlineWH pic.twitter.com/8b3C6bdlJj
