Report: Sade working on new album

ML Layton/Getty ImagesAfter not releasing a new album in eight years, Sade is reportedly working on new music.

Band member Stuart Matthewman, who has appeared on every Sade album and composed several of her tunes, says the Sade team has written “a bunch of songs.”

“When we’re happy, then we’ll let everyone else hear it,” Matthewman tells Rated RnB. “It might sound funny but we write and do music to please ourselves and just hope that [we] have good taste and other people will like it.”

Matthewman says group leader Sade Adu is very particular about releasing new music, and is not concerned with fame. “She likes to put out art. So when it’s ready, it will come out.”

The group Sade has always taken their time putting out new music.

After releasing their fourth studio album, Love Deluxe, in 1992, the band dropped their next album, Lovers Rock, eight years later in 2000. The seventh album, Soldier of Love, did not arrive until a decade later in 2010.

Three albums were certified 4x platinum, and two were certified triple platinum. Sade has won four Grammys, including Best New Artist in 1986.

Sade did resurface earlier this year to release a new song, “Flowers in the Universe,” for the A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack.
