Rihanna Bests The Beatles as Work Spends 9th Week at Number One

by

Paolo ReversiRihanna‘s infectous single “Work,” featuring Drake, is logging its ninth week atop the Billboard Hot 100, the magazine reports.  The feat moves Rih Rih past The Beatles, leaving her alone in second place for the most total weeks spent at number one on that chart.

Over her career, Rihanna has now spent a total of 60 weeks in the peak position on the Hot 100. That moves her one week ahead of The Beatles, who stayed at the top for 59 weeks during their career.  But Rihanna still has to rack up 19 more weeks at number one to catch the artist who holds the record for the most weeks at #1: Mariah Carey.

When “Work” hit number one nine weeks ago, it became Rihanna’s 14th career Hot 100 topper — making her the artist with the third-most number ones of all time, one ahead of Michael Jackson.  In that category, she still trails both Mariah Carey and The Beatles, who had 18 and 20 number-ones respectively.
