As her third version of Puma creepers arrive in stores Thursday, the Dior brand ambassador unveiled her new venture, futuristic shades, on Instagram.

“I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together,” Rihanna said in a statement to Women’s Wear Daily.

“I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team,” she adds. “I started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials. I literally sat there and drew and drew until I was happy with the design, and the team illustrated it for me right then and there.”

Rihanna says after that, it was only “a matter of weeks” before the first prototype was a reality.

The “Rihanna” sunglasses feature a metallic frame inspired by the vision-enhancing appliance worn by Levar Burton’s Geordi La Forge character in Star Trek: The Next Generation. La Forge was blind, and required the special eyepiece to see. The singular style will be available in several colors, including silver, pink, blue, green and red.

The sunglasses will go on sale at Dior stores in early June. Prices start at $840, going up to $1,950 for the 24-karat gold-plated frames.
