Talk about a full circle moment!

Snoop Dogg is now the proud owner of Death Row Records, the same label that launched his career three decades ago. He signed with the label in 1993 and dropped his debut album Doggystyle before later signing with various other labels including Def Jam.

Death Row Records was founded in 1992 by Dr. DreSuge Knightthe D.O.C., and Dick Griffey. In addition to Snoop, the label was home to legendary rap icon Tupac Shakur during the 1990s. Ultimately, Death Row filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and bounced around a bit before landing at The Blackstone Group and MRNK Music Group.

“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” Snoop said. “It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members.”

He added, “I would like to personally thank the teams at Blackstone, MNRK and especially David Kestnbaum, who worked collaboratively with me over several months to make this exciting homecoming a reality.”
