So So Def: Jermaine Dupri discusses the idea of his own biopic and which actor could play him

by

Thaddaeus McAdams/ExclusiveAccess.netJermaine Dupri is not sure if his life story will ever see the light of day, but says if a biopic does get produced, he already has someone special in mind to play him.

“I always wanted Lorenz Tate to play me anytime that I would do anything,” Dupri tells ABC Radio. “I believe Lorenz Tate could be a good Jermaine Dupri.”

The rapper, record executive, music producer and DJ who discovered and helped to launch the careers of such artists as XscapeTLCUsherDa Brat and Jagged Edge, says a biopic on Jermaine Dupri would definitely be a major undertaking.

“If you listen to a biopic on Jermaine Dupri it would be very long, because the fans would be mad if we left somebody out,” Dupri says.

“You know we might get somewhere and then just stop before we get to Anthony Hamilton and then people would be like, ‘Wait, wait, wait a minute.’ And then it’s like the Franchise Boyz are further along the way from Da Brat, Bow Wow, and Jagged Edge. So it’s just like a long story.”

Dupri also notes that part of the reason his story is so long is because he’s done more than what the average label executive has been able to do.

“One thing that people don’t understand is that So So Def, out of all the boutique record labels — like Bad Boy, Death Row, Ruff Ryders, Murder Inc., anyone of them that can go along with So So Def — none of them have more artist than I do, none of them put out more artists than me,” he says.
